Scrumdaddy is a blues band. Actually, the ultimate rhythmic blues band. 4 guys in the northeast of the Americas who just dig the blues and are putting their own spin on them. Scrumdaddy originally started as a larger band called Scrum. For those of you non-rugby fans, a scrum is a bunch of guys huddled together scratching to get hold of an oversized football. That’s kinda the way the old band looked on a small stage. Except it was a drummer we were huddled around. So when Scrum got smaller, the name got longer. No particular reason other than Scrumdaddy just sounded cooler to us. It seems to roll off the tongue better. And it’s a lot less heavy metal. So why the blues? What is it with all these white guys wanting to play the music born of the poor American Negro from the Mississippi Delta during the early 20th century? Well, it turns out that we all have our blues. Whether it’s love lost or an asshole boss, we all need to sing the blues. It’s good therapy. And for us guys who can’t remember much, we can remember the words to simple blues tunes and put some of our special soul into them. And what is this Ultimate Rhythmic Blues? You know, we think about the early days of The Who and their Maximum R&B. It was their spin on American R& B. What they played was something that spoke to many a young man in their day in age. Well we think Ultimate Rhythmic Blues will speak to many in “our generation”. Many love the blues, but also love the collection of influences that have given direction to Scrumdaddy including Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and even Bob Marley. And all of those artists were influenced by blues pioneers like Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Albert King and Slim Harpo. When we can, we try to put all those ingredients into a melting pot to come up with something unique. Scrumdaddy. Ultimate Rhythmic Blues. It's kinda got a ring to it. ![]() |
